19th C. Chinese Qing Dynasty Brass Op**m Water Pipe
Description
East Asia, China, Late Qing Dynasty, circa late 19th to early 20th century CE.
A finely crafted cast-brass water pipe, likely used for op**m or tobacco, featuring several removable components, including a tweezer and storage receptacle. The pipe has a cylindrical reservoir adorned with incised geometric patterns and bamboo motifs. At the top, there are openings designed to hold the tweezers, along with a hinged lid that opens to store op**m. The lid is engraved with Chinese characters, while the base of the reservoir bears a sun-shaped mark. The long stem and mouthpiece allow smoke to pass over the water in the reservoir, cooling it before reaching the smoker.
